Welcome to Britain's most festive cul-de-sac. Residents of Trinity Close, Burnham on Sea, Somerset have decorated their home for the festive season with almost 100,000 blazing Christmas lights. Six families paid around £3,000 each for 15,000 fairy lights which cover their homes and gardens. The houses are adorned with sparkling Santas, reindeers and snowmen until the New Year. Thousands of visitors flock from around the country to view the spectacular display, helping the residents raise thousands of pounds for grateful charities every year.

This display in Bristol is put up by brothers Paul and Lee Brailsford on their mother's house. Lee and Paul began decorating their home 18 years ago - starting with a single Christmas tree. But their collection of decorations has grown so rapidly that it now includes tens of thousands of lights. Over a thousand people turned out for the switch-on with money raised going towards Bristol Children's Hospital.

Tourists take pictures of a decorated house with a sign that reads Frohes Fest (Merry Christmas) in the village of Calle, south of the northern German city of Bremen. Ralf Vogt, the 66-year-old owner began decorating the house in early March this year. The cost of powering some 450,000 Christmas lights comes out at 2,500 Euros (just under £2,000) for its four-week season.
